WAC award
« on: January 29, 2013, 09:17:24 PM »
For those newcomers in to the hobby there is another rather easy certificate to claim and that is the WAC, or Worked All Continents award.

It is available from ARRL and the requirements are one contact confirmed from each of the six continents.

North America, pretty simple just work some one state side and exchange a qsl card, or confirmation via LOTW.
This is true for all contacts

South America: Pretty easy on any band 80-10 meters, lots of activity from various countries.

Europe:  On good days working twenty meters you can find large amount of stations from Europe. Same thing hold for 15, 17, 30, 10 meters.

Africa: This is perhaps the most difficult, since a lot of countries in Africa are rare and sparse in activity. It does require some patience. Presently, there is activity from Senegal, Egypt and limited activity from Mali.

Asia: Do not let the distance fool you, there are loads of stations from Japan, 20 early in the morning, late afternoon, 40 meters in the early morning and of course 15 is loaded with Japanese stations. You may be lucky enough to find some Korean stations, Indian, or Chinese.

Oceania:  The most common are VK and ZL, of course a lot of islands in between that are active. Namely, ZK3T, FO8WBB, FK8DD, several stations from 3D2 plus rare Pitcairn Island, Samoa. The chances are good for this area. Try the morning hours on 40, with the same attack for 15 and ten provided they are open.

You have your choice, paper cards, or LOTW will suffice as confirmations. Nice award and you have your choice of mixed modes, or CW/SSB or digital.

Good hunting and of course great DX
