DX Reports / DX Report 04/12/18
« Last post by k4lrx on April 12, 2018, 01:01:04 PM »
Bands are horrid these days, only real action is 3B7A, nice signal on twenty meters 14.185 up 1730Z, this operation will last until the 17th so you still have some time to work them if you have not already done so. In other bits of information the Z60A cards are starting to be sent to those lucky enough to have worked this first attempt and new entity. Be patient and they will appear shortly, since there are several thousand requests it might take a little time to process.

There is another expedition planned to Z6 within a couple of weeks, so you will have another chance at it. I will post the details within the week on this one.

A5A made a brief appearance on 20 meters during the evening hours, made about six contacts and did the vanishing act, have not heard them since that time and it was five days ago. Contacts made were with West Coast stations, nothing heard back this way.

That wraps it up for this report, Bands are :( :( :( :(  Hope they get better.

Only DX to report as unusual is 3B7A this station is active on several bands with a good signal despite poor bands. On 15 there are on most 21.285 up and around 1900Z, or somewhat later. In the evenings they have been heard on 40 7.023 up around 0200Z. We have not heard too much action on 80, seems the band is good at times, but the signal drops down into the noise often.

We are looking for a 15 meter contact, but so far have missed them for several times, but we keep hoping. Did receive qsl cards from J70BH adding a new band country on 15, 3D2JS on 17 meters for a new band country, and TO2SP on St. Barts for a new 80 meter band country. I do have several more on other bands such as Z60 still waiting for the card.

Plus we also received a qsl from A45XR in Oman for a contact on 80 meters, nice one indeed.

Band conditions have been pretty bad in the last few days, however the 3B7A expedition is up and running, they have been on 40/ 17/20/15 with a very good signal. On 15 look around 21.285 up 5 to ten. I seem to miss them since the window is short, but they do make a at least a dozen contacts and then go to a more productive band. Nothing on ten noted, band is virtually dead most of the time, so nothing to report.

We did see some meager activation again of A5A on twenty CW frequencies varied, but for the most part around 14.020 up and around 2300Z. Not sure now long this one will be active, or it was just one day. Be worth listening for this station, nice qsl from the last effort.

Pretty poor conditions in the last few days. Easy one to work is OD5YA on 14.196 around 1700Z working a string of stations. This is an Italian op and qsl via his home call in Italy. Do not send mail directly to Lebanon, it never arrives to the person intended. Either lost, or pilfered it you included green stamps. Wasted effort.  Not much else to mention, conditions stink. :-[

7Q7EI appears on 80 CW about every night, cw only, cw op either cannot hear, or copy well. One station answered in five minutes of calling is not a good ratio.

Looks like the bands have taken a big dive and hit bottom, yesterday was  pretty bad. However, 7Q7EI is active on various bands last night we were able to copy this operation on 80 meters . Good signal, but cw op only returning to someone about every five minutes, seems like either they were having trouble, or op could not copy code.

 :-[

In other activity 5Z4/LZ4NM surfaced on 14.207 1820Z not an outstanding signal but workable. We seldom bother with portable stations, lots of times they fail to submit documentation to the ARRL for DXCC credit. With this one wait and see, otherwise for credit it may count for zip.

Only notable operation that was of benefit we did work YO3APJ on 80 meters for a new band country, another notch for DX challenge of 1500 getting closer and closer.  8)

Good to be back home and listening to the ham bands, one or two stations of notable operation. 7Q7EI has been active this week, lots of activity on 40 cw and on occasions 20 meters. This station is high speed CW, and often heard on 7.019 kHz around 0300Z. In other mentioning of rare ones we did have a slight window opening on 15 V35DX 21.285 around 2000Z.

80 meters still has low noise, we did work JH1HDT on 3.504 1055Z, we will have about a month free of high static and once those months arrive the low bands will not be usable at night.

I retired this antenna in favor of a tri-bander, want to get this one out of of my garage. All parts and pieces are in a pile, but all there, balun is BN 86, needs new pigtails, but this is minor, new ones can be easily made. You will need a pick up truck to move all the pieces. New right out of the box is $770, I will sell mine to you for $250. Cash, Certified check, M.O. accepted.

Also will include new still wrapped BN 86 all parts and pieces in a plastic bag.  Both items for $260 bring a truck to haul off parts to this antenna, elements are still assembled, only thing that was taken apart was one section of the boom. If you need to break it down further, bring your own socket wrenches and take care of it.

This antenna can be shortened for 17 meters, or tuned for ten meters, presently on 20 meters. Five elements on 34 foot  boom, great for 17 meter op.
