« Last post by k4lrx on September 09, 2018, 02:18:23 PM »
About the only thing making it today was 9K2MU on 14.032 good signal, seems like the band was open, no one on, but that is the way it goes. The station mentioned qsls via EQSL and LOTW, direct is not an option. Do not send direct, the card will never appear. In other matters VU2BGS has been contacted again about his card, says he mailed it again. I simply do not believe it, card has never appeared, so this one is a lost cause.

There are some days when the bands are good and well then we have the last few dayS. If you had your rig on yesterday and thought may be the receiver section took a hike you might have been at least in the right area.

I could only listen yesterday since I had two fellows on the tower in between rain drops to install my six meter beam. The old one had seen its better days and is now retired to the trash bin. Once the crew was finished I tuned around on six and heard a couple of signals in Texas, they were up and down, but I I had a quick contact and it was good. I checked 20, absolute zero, zip nothing.

Let's see what today brings us, it cannot be any worse.

Wish I had better things to report, but conditions continue to be poor during the day, we tuned in on the WAE contest over the weekend, but heard few signals. Fact of the matter I have been battling a virus and and have spent the last few days inside. I am better today then I was on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. We can hope for the best.

Good news, we should be back in business on six meters and hope to catch some openings in the fall and winter if possible. We are having the new beam installed, I am just too old to be doing any major antenna work any longer, but we sure do miss it. We will have a five element at 80 feet, so we should work some thing, you think?

Looks like the KH9 extended operation is still hopeful, but do not hold your breath on this one.

There will be two operations from Kosovo on beginning on the 17th and the other on the 20th, one will make use of the digital modes, the other conventional SSB. If you did not work this entity last effort, good luck this time.

DX Reports / DX Report 08/10/18
« Last post by k4lrx on August 10, 2018, 10:19:08 AM »
Bands are not that good today, pretty bad, however around 1300Z we did have some openings ti China, BU5AD,14.007 with pretty good signal. No problem to work.

In other action one station showed up signing the call YB37RI/1 this one is not in QRZ.com, it may be legit, but chances are it is not. Indonesia is a hot bed of pirate radio operators, and this one reeks of being a pirate. Like I stated, it may be legit, but all indications are it is a pirate. Normally, the call letters for Indonesia are YB then a number and two, or three letters, not two numbers.  However, this could be a special event operation giving them the benefit of the doubt, be nice if that is true.

One other station a VU2CRS was on 14.212 but did not stay long, one contact and gone. This occurred around 1330Z and that was it, band died off few signals heard.

What few signals heard this morning are weak and fluttery, we did have a quick contact with BG4GOV nice signal on 14.012 1300Z. There were reports of two 9M stations one on 14.210 with a strong signal to North America. We did not copy this station apparently they did not stay long and made only a couple of contacts, again around 1300Z. Same with HS0 also reported by others, but no copy on this end.

There is one K5 operating portable FO makes a few contacts and then gone, this also has been reported or spotted on the clusters, This is a cw operation plus some FT8.  I heard via the rumor mill this was Chesterfield Island, but not sure. I assume this one will be confirmed via the home call by some method. No real updated info on this one, in fact they have not been heard at my location.  Band is really dead and not much coming in from any direction, looks like a real dud day as far as radio..

Continued poor conditions on the bands, one good station showed up at 14.032 kHz 20:45Z and that was 9H1TT with a very good signal, he was looking for North America and working a lot of stations. Other then that one, not much to mention.  For those of you needing a contact into New Zealand look for ZL4IR around 0400Z 14,250 or close to it.

We have heard nothing as to the planned expedition to KH9 that according to some informative sources will start on the 15th of this month.  We shall see what happens and if it gets off the ground. Stay tuned.
