Bands are still pretty bad these days, however  we did work a very strong station from Indonesia YB8OUN 14.215 0420Z big signal quite surprising.  During the evening hours some signals from New Zealand are making it fine, and all four islands active.  As I mentioned earlier the most notable operation for this month so far will be the Six Oscar Zero Xray, but to be honest I do not look for much of a signal based on the proposed operation. But, then again things just might peak up enough for something to happen.

Only a few offerings in the last couple of days, There are a couple of special event stations using the OT70 prefix this is the 70th anniversary of the Belgian ham radio organization. I understand there is a nice paper certificate offered.

Also, 4U1ITU made a brief appearance this station is located in Geneva, Switzerland we caught this one again on 14.034 at 11:30Z nice signal as always. Remember, the only two stations that count as separate entities using the 4U1 prefix are the two mentioned, 4U1UN is in NYC, rare as hen's teeth, but occasionally operates.

4U1WB is the World Bank station, it does count for a U.S. Contact, you can claim the state, or county, it does not count as a separate entity as the other two mentioned. On the DXCC credit it does count as a U.S. Contact, that is it.

Looks like the special event from Israel is over, never heard the last two letters needed for completion, so guess we missed the boat on this one.

Only one station from China noted early in the morning, BD5OQ on twenty meters, seems these stations call CQ reply to one call and then vanish. May be they do not understand what is going on since you hear many stations just sending their calls. So be it, work them if you hear a station in China and be glad you were recognized. Ok, that is it, oh as I mentioned 600X should be on in the next few days, but according to the information I have, the op is a single op using a dipole and 100 watts of CW with conditions so poor well good luck on this one.

DX Reports / DX Expeditions for June
« Last post by k4lrx on May 29, 2018, 03:22:21 AM »
The most notable one in the works is an operation from 6O0 that is Six Oscar Zero this will be a single man operation and we do know that the op is an excellent CW man. This is Baldur DJ6SI, however the planned operation will be with 100 watts and wire antennas, we shall what happens with this one?

Some of you old timers will recall a couple of decades back this op and a few other Germans operated from Glorioso Island and I was one of a few ops that worked them. The operation was never documented to ARRL and therefore no credit could be given. We have in our file a worthless card, our guess was this group got on the island without permission from the French Government, operated under the FR prefix at that time. It was not until several years later that two very confused ops went to Glorioso and did some operating. It was not a good operation since they moved around constantly, went QRT as soon as they were spotted and operated at the top of twenty meter phone. At least this time the operation was accepted by the League, so based on the history of the op on Glorioso, well take your chances, work it first and hopefully it will be accepted. Looks like it will be CW and that is it.

Nothing much on over the weekend, just the WPX contest cw, we did not work this one since I have the prefix award and was very disappointed in the paper award. Not worth the effort exerted, the paper work to obtain the  award, nor any endorsements. Of course that is my opinion and you may feel differently. If this is your thing go for it and enjoy, so be it.

With June just around the corner we hope for some interesting efforts in the form of small expeditions, more on those later when we have the information.

DX Reports / DX Report 5/25/18
« Last post by k4lrx on May 25, 2018, 10:59:35 AM »
Not much to report these days, as I mentioned in an earlier report the twenty meter band is showing openings towards VK/ZL at nights around 0300Z several stations making it and very good signals.

I also noticed some openings to Europe around 0800Z a time when the band is normally dead on this side of the planet. Nothing really stirring in the form of expeditions, but June does look promising so we will see what happens?

The other day I had a contact with BD7DX this station indicated he would confirm via EQSL, well got several cards from China so really did not bother with EQSL. However, a check of this station indicates he has a back log of over 1500 requests, good luck on getting yours. Some how, I just do not believe any confirmations of contacts will take place any time soon, or perhaps never on EQSL.   Just as a tip, if you use EQSL do a search of the station you plan to send a request, if there is a huge back log, forget it, it just will not happen, or if it does it may take years.

The tried and proven method I have used for years are paper cards, check marks, stars, or other markings by the contact in your log mean nothing to me.

Ok, for now let us see what happens today?

Very little on the bands these days, However, around 0300Z several stations are noted from New Zealand with good signals, we had a solid contact with Zl3RIK last night on twenty at 14.235Kh. There were others on the band with pretty good signals, been a while since we have heard the boys from ZL land due to very poor conditions.

On  a few stations from Europe on during the day, they are scarce as is any dx. I did hear one of the 4X70 stations on, but for a brief time, we still need three letters for this award. We may, or may not work the required stations, with band conditions so poor, well not much happening.

Wish I had some real good news to share, but nothing much making it in any direction. Heard a few stations from Europe this afternoon, but that was it for twenty meters. T storm moved in and we had to disconnect antennas in a hurry.

I assume the special event stations from Israel are gone nothing heard in the last few days, of course two missing letters on that pursuit, but nothing ever heard on this side. This event was supposed to last 70 days so it may have concluded and that is the end of it.  Low bands noisy this time of year, so not much happening.. Did receive qsl from TN5R for an 80 meter contact a few months ago.
