This morning tipped off the J.I. contest and I am assuming it is Japan International. The purpose of this one is for Japanese stations to work as many stations as possible. Exchange for those not in Japan is a signal report and apparently your zone number.
There were several stations on 40 in the early hours of the morning with very good signals, other stations heard working the Japanese were ZL/VK/ a few stateside stations and little else. Bands were for the most part poor and about an S4 noise level. Based on poor conditions and high noise, the bands are not producing much.
5W0M has appeared now and then on 40 meter ssb, and also on cw. Return rate is somewhat slow, but with patience you can make a contact. Check DXscape for all details.
